Born on December 30, 1865 in Bombay, India, Rudyard Kipling was one of the United Kingdom’s most versatile and popular writers. The English author, poet, short-story writer and novelist was an imaginative storyteller whose beloved works included the children’s classics The Jungle Book, Kim, and Just So Stories.
Kipling was educated in England and later returned to India. He was awarded the 1907 Nobel Prize in Literature. He married Caroline Balestier and lived for a period in Brattleboro, Vermont, where he wrote The Jungle Book in 1894. Kipling died in Janaury 1836. He was 71.
